Position Overview

The Communications and Marketing Coordinator reports directly to the Chief Advancement Officer.  The Communications and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for the daily coordination of the Department of Institutional Advancements communications and marketing strategies and activities on behalf of Saint Joseph Abbey and Seminary College.

 

Position Core Responsibilities

  • Coordinate communication activities in cooperation with the DIA to develop and market the Abbey apostolates and the Seminary College, as well as promote and proactively nurture awareness and positive perceptions about SJASC.

  • Coordinate marketing activities in cooperation with DIA to help plan, support, and promote the goals and purposes of SJASC through advertising, news media, printed materials, social media, e-mail, and active participation by alumni and volunteers.

  • Collaborate with and support the DIA team in all intra-departmental and extra-departmental efforts and activities.

  • Execute job duties in a professional and cohesive manner with all apostolates and departments throughout SJASC.

  • Maintain strict internal and external confidentiality regarding volunteer and donor records, volunteer and donor information and privileged information of any type or source.

 

Position Duties

  • Manage and coordinate all press releases and coverage for SJASC, working proactively in pitching news media coverage of milestones, events, honors, “human interest” stories, etc.

  • Manage media relations (e.g. serve as initial contact when news media inquiries are received; screen the nature of the inquiry and scope out as much as possible about the reporter’s initial direction and assumptions regarding the article or broadcast story).

  • Oversee and manage advertising and marketing efforts for SJASC.

  • Develop, maintain, and manage SJASC messaging and branding for literacy, consistency and integrity in all communication modes and venues.

  • Write and edit copy for DIA materials and supervise graphics and production of the same.

  • Write and edit copy for the SJASC annual and impact reports.

  • Collect and manage all SJASC impact data and conduct data analysis, including analyzing communication campaign performance and recommending improvements.

  • Manage graphic design and printing for all promotional materials and internal communication needs for SJASC.

  • Manage the design and content of fundraising materials for SJASC.

  • Manage SJASC social media presence, including but not limited to Facebook and Instagram.

  • Create and distribute the SJASC e-newsletter of events and articles to internal and external audiences and coordinate internal communications to support the activities of SJASC.

  • Serve as Webmaster for The Saint Joseph Abbey and Seminary College websites.

  • Monitor and disseminate crisis information efforts with SJASC leadership.

  • Maintain and enforce the institution-wide SJASC Communication Policy, in all its particulars (see attached).

  • Per Communications Policy, obtain institutional approval for all public communications/releases and/or appearances.

  • Monitor and contribute to relevant news outlets (e.g., diocesan newspapers, web and social media) to increase SJASC’s visibility and geographic reach.

  • Monitor news media on a regular basis for coverage about SJASC.

  • Coordinate with the DIA team a “calendarized” (electronic) schedule of all annual (but not limited to) DIA activities.

  • Serve as SJASC photographer/videographer as needed.

  • Manage DIA established plans and strategies as they pertain to all communication needs for SJASC.

 

Qualifications

Demonstrated excellence in organizational, coordination, and communication/marketing knowledge and skills.  Must have an excellent proven track record with writing, editing, and proofing skills.  Proven knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.  Familiarity with graphic design, editing software, including but not limited to, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Final Cut Pro. Familiarity with photography and videography.  B.A. or equivalent experience and training.

 

Experience

A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in communications and marketing.

 

Work Conditions

Work indoors and outdoors performing volunteer management, training and administrative duties. In addition to regular office hours, this position requires occasional evening and weekend work. Position requires a great deal of walking, moving boxes and other materials.
