August 23 Inclement Weather update:
The below information was sent to Bishops, the Board and Vocation Directors today, which details the Seminary’s Emergency Plan that will go into effect this afternoon:
Good afternoon,
As you are aware, Louisiana is preparing for another unprecedented event, the approach of Hurricane Marco which is less than 24 hours away from impacting our state and later this week the probability of Hurricane Laura having an effect on Louisiana as well. These two storms may occur within 48 hours of each other.
Saint Joseph Seminary College is no stranger to hurricanes. During the devastation of Hurricane Katrina fifteen years ago this coming Saturday, our buildings were able to sustain winds in excess of 100 miles per hour. We feel very confident that we are able to safely house all of our seminarians on campus. That being said, below is an outline of our Emergency Plan which will go into effect beginning this afternoon.
· All residents of our mobile building, Callais Hall, will be relocated to Vianney Hall by 6 PM today.
· The SJASC Maintenance Team has prepared the campus for the impending storms.
· SAGE Food Services have been alerted and will put in place their emergency plan to feed the seminarians during this event.
· Our faculty have been alerted that they are to prepare their online class assignments and post them to Canvas for tomorrow’s classes and be prepared to continue this format throughout the week, if needed.
All of our administrative offices will be closed Monday, August 24 and Tuesday, August 25. The administration will meet at 1 PM on Tuesday to reassess our plan and adjust it as necessary.
The spirit of the community remains high. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you abreast of any developments.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Fr. Gregory Boquet, O.S.B.
