Saint Joseph Seminary College Holds 106th Annual Alumni Day

It was a day of celebration and pride as Saint Joseph Seminary College welcomed alumni from as far back as the Class of 1966 to campus for the 106th annual Saint Ben’s Alumni Day festivities, held on Friday, April 10. The annual Homecoming included a general assembly, Alumni Mass and a social and dinner. The most Rev. James F. Checchio Archdiocese of New Orleans was the principal celebrant at the Alumni Mass, and Fr. Rodel V. Faller (Class of 2001) delivered the homily. Deacon Warren Berault (Class of 1966) assisted at the mass.

During the festivities, SJSC Class of 2026 senior seminarians were inducted into the Alumni Association prior to graduation, which will take place on the Seminary grounds on Friday, May 8, 2026.

Rev. Ronald L. Calkins (Class of 1973), retired priest from the Archdiocese of New Orleans whose ministry has stood as a testament to Benedictine life, was recognized as the 2026 Alumnus of the Year. Fr. Dustin P. Dought, Executive Director of the Secretariat of Divine Worship at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in Washington, D.C., was recognized as this year’s 2026 Son of Saint Ben, an honor bestowed on an individual who personifies the Saint Joseph Seminary College tradition of excellence and service through his personal and professional achievements and vocations. Dr. Jim Bradford and the late Mrs. Dayle Bradford were inducted as 2026 Honorary Alumni Association Members for their years of service to Saint Joseph Abbey and Seminary College. Through his medical practice, Dr. Bradford offered his services to the monks and seminarians when needed. Jim and Dayle also welcomed Vietnamese seminarians, who had fled their war-torn country, to celebrate Christmas with their family. Their dedication also brought together the Abbey Schola and inspired the Deo Gratias fundraiser, which continues to strengthen the Abbey’s ability to continue its mission.

Alumni Day not only highlighted the accomplishments of those who have continued to serve in the tradition of Saint Benedict, this event was a special time for alumni to gather, reminisce and reconnect with classmates and friends on the beautiful grounds of Saint Joseph Abbey and Seminary College.
